What is an appropriateness test?
What is an appropriateness test?
Updated over a week ago

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has provided rules to determine whether an instrument is complex. As a regulated firm, we use these rules when determining whether a security should be considered complex.

Due to the different risks involved in trading complex instruments, customers have to pass an appropriateness test before being able to trade these instruments.

The appropriateness test consists of 7 multiple choice questions.

Once you have passed the appropriateness test, you can invest in complex instruments available in the Freetrade app. You will not need to retake the test once you have passed it.

If you fail the appropriateness test, you will need to wait 24 hours before re-taking it. You should only take the test again if you consider that you have the knowledge and experience required to invest in complex instruments and understand the risks involved.

Please note that complex instruments are only available to customers on our Standard and Plus plans. To take the appropriateness test and trade complex instruments, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app.
