What is an exchange-traded note (ETN)?

Updated today

An ETN is a type of investment product that is traded on a stock exchange, similar to shares. Itโ€™s a debt security issued by a financial institution. Instead of giving you ownership of an asset, it tracks the performance of something else (like a stock index, commodity, or cryptocurrency) and gives you exposure to its price movements.
