What’s extended hours trading?

Updated over 10 months ago

Extended hours trading means you can buy and sell shares outside the market’s core trading hours.

It is broken into two sessions, known as the pre-market, where you can trade before regular market hours, and the post-market, where you can trade after regular market hours.

Freetrade offers pre-market trading on certain US stocks. It does not currently support post-market trading, but may do so in the future.

Extended hours trading will not be available on days when the US market is closed (exchange holidays).

Pre-market

The pre-market session runs between 4 AM - 9:30 AM ET (9 AM - 2:30 PM GMT) Monday to Friday. Please note that these timings will change as countries transition to and from daylight savings time.
